Remember when you were in grade school and your teacher plainly said you weren’t to use a finger to guide you along as you read? (I sure do!)

Guess what: your teacher clearly wasn’t a speed reader.

This is one of those tips that isn’t for everyone, and there are several different approaches so you have to find the one that’s right for you, but I want you to start by completely, thoroughly discounting the idea that to teach yourself to speed read, you have to keep your fingers off the page.

Check out several different approaches to using a finger (or hand) as you teach yourself to speed read and determine which one you’re most comfortable with. Not everyone finds they like speed reading using a finger to guide them along, but many people find that this approach dramatically increases their reading speed.
